Swimming Sports!

The breezy wind was calm and the shimmering sun was shining on a typical Friday. The whole of BBi School was on their way to the local swimming centre at just about 9.00am for the day we had all been waiting for. We scattered off the bus as we arrived at the local swimming centre. We made our way over to the wavy, bright, blue swimming pool where our events would be held.

Blue...Yellow...RED...Green. Those are the colours of our houses. Miro...Kowhai...TOTARA(the best of all)...Rimu.

Sammy-Jo and I hunted for a superior shady spot in Totara to assemble. Luckily there was a load of gaps as half of the school hadn't even arrived. We unloaded out weighty bags on the grassy area and prepared ourselves for the stimulating day. The spot we had chosen wasn't so superior later that day.

A while later the whole school had arrived. This is how the day commenced. "First up," bawled Miss Schnider through the loud speaker. "'A' grade swimmers..." When the 'A' grade swimmers were all geared up, the day had successfully begun.

BANG! As the sound echoed through the gusty air, the swimmers leaped into the wavy, blue pool and began to race as fast as the wind. "Totara, Totara." Rimu and Totara were cheering their lungs out. We were competing for house points and teamwork.

When the first set of races were over, the house captains came around showing us the valueable house points. Each time a member of a house jumps into the pool, they would earn points for the house that they are in. OH MY GOSH! We couldn't believe what we were seeing. Mighty Totara was in the lead. Cheers and chants began as we were winning with pride and victory.

Soon the sun was out and it was not long before the shade had vanished. So much for a shady spot I had thought to myself. When the shade was nowhere to be found, teachers started repeating the same old line again and again. "Hat on, put your hat on." They were like non-stop talkative parrots replicating what another teacher said.

The whole of BBi were continuously coating layers and layers of greasy sunscreen on. We had to have sunscreen and water that day to survive. The UV Rays were so powerful that day. We had to continue to apply sunscreen on literally every 10minutes.

The day went by as fast as a bumble bee had to live. The day was almost over but not yet. Races were being held while others were eating and drinking like hungru gorillas. This was kind of like our lunch time. But the teachers didn't really tell us when we could eat lunch, so we all ate whenever we wanted really. When we got out of the relaxing pool we were starving. Well at least I was.

There were only about 4 more races left. By this time we were all literally hot, sticky and tanned. Mr Barrow was hot enough to get heaved in the water by Mr Roper and Mr McLean. We all cracked up laughing as he jumped out of the pool, with water dripping down his legs like water running down a pipe. A while later Mr McLean got pushed in the pool as well. I suppose it was all to do with REVENGE!

As a result the day turned out hot, entertaining and relaxed. We all enjoyed the day and had a laugh. Though I would have found it better if it wasn't so HOT!
